Lots of new free sounds just added

We’re almost at 21,000 free sound effects thanks to some new sounds by Adam A Johnson and a load of new sounds just uploaded today. Some are requests and others are just sfx I recorded because they were on my list…

Suspense strings

This request was posted up in our forum. The user had asked for some 15 seconds or so suspense strings. Not knowing exactly what they wanted (they referenced a TV programme I’m not familiar with as I don’t watch any TV and I couldn’t find any references on YouTube etc) I produced some sections I felt were suitable. Body impacts

On my list for a while now have been more body impacts. I started to create a few more recently and today I created two new impact sounds, one of a body or body part falling to the ground and another body slam against a metal fence.

I have plans to fill an old sleeping bag with loads of old heavy objects (books, phone directories, old toys etc) and record some impacts with this. I’ll be dropping, dragging and throwing it around so watch this space for more info.

Evil creature vocalisations

I recorded my voice laughing, sighing and groaning today and then used the stock pitch shifter and stereo expander plugin in Adobe Audition to give it some evil character. You can never have enough monster and creature sound effects so these will hopefully be useful to a lot of you. If you need any specific phrases and sounds, just post a request in the forum so I can work on it for you.

Water bubbling and a witches cauldron

A while ago now someone suggested we record and add some witch sounds, including cauldrons and spells etc. The request wasn’t forgotten, so today I made a start. First up is this free cauldron sound. I used a drinking straw to blow bubbles into a saucepan and then pitched the recording down. I added some reverb to give the sfx a bit of atmosphere.

I also used the same technique to record bubbles of different sizes and depths by blowing air into a drinking glass, metal and plastic containers.

Lastly I used the straw and glass when finished recording the above bubble sounds to suck up the remaining water and get these great slurp sounds. Quite possibly one of the most annoying noises you can hear (my kids do it all the time) they can be used for what they are, or as source material for sound design maybe.
