We’ve reached 60,000 free sound effects

I love posting these milestone blog posts because it’s great to look back over them overtime and see exactly when we hit key moments and how quickly our library of free sound effects has grown. In previous posts I’ve told you (some of you might be yawning by now) that back in 2015, we launched with just 6,000 sounds.

The aim of this website back then was simply to create a library where I could release my own free sounds to the world and share them with creatives such as filmmakers, game developers, YouTubers etc, but overtime it’s just exploded. Here is a quick rundown of some of the milestone dates we’ve hit.

• 2015 – Launched with just 6,000 sounds
• November 2016 – we reached 11,000
• January 2017 – 12,000
• August 2017 – 15,000
• September 2017 – 16,000
• October 2017 – 17,000
• November 2017 – 18,000
• December 2017 – 19,000
• January 2018 – 20,000
• May 2018 – 24,000
• July 2018 – 26,000
• September 2018 – 29,000
• October 2018 – 30,000
• March 2020 – 60,000

As you can see from these dates, we steadily grew from 2015 to 2018, but from then on our library has grown at a rapid rate. This has been due to the fact that as we’ve grown and got busier, our contributors have added more and more sounds and so have we. Being able to dedicate my time over the years has also developed, with me now being able to work full-time on the library.

What’s in the near future for ZapSplat.com?

Where are we heading? One thing I have learned over the years is not to try and fix what isn’t broken. The feedback we receive from our users is that they want more sounds and better features. So with that in mind, we have a few things in the pipeline. Here is what we expect to happen in the next 12 months.

1.  By December 2020, we believe we will hit 80,000 free sound effects to download
2.  Advanced search. Yep, we know, we need a better advanced search so it’s coming
3.  More sound packs – we will expand our packs significantly
4.  An app – okay, maybe not ready by December, but we’re working on a desktop app
5.  We will be launching a new service for royalty free music

As you can see, our focus is on more sounds. That’s what you want, so that’s what we’re working on every single day. More and more sounds that are useful to you, our members. However we know we need to improve our site search, so we plan to improve it with better filtering and an advanced search too.

While our royalty free music library is hugely popular (and we plan to keep growing it), we’ve teamed up with 2 others and will be launching a new free music service to compliment our current offering. Watch this space for more info.

And finally, an app I hear you ask? Yes, it’s something we’re very keen to launch as soon as we can. We know people would find a desktop app useful, one that allows users to access our library right from your computer, without having to fire up a browser and lightning fast browsing and downloading direct to your hard drive. Again, watch this space.
